Replacing 1.8t have Questions
My timing belt went out the other day and so I am planning to replace or rebuild the engine/head. i found an engine near by with similar miles from an 02 VW for $500. The head gasket is blown (hense the reason he replaced with an engine he got from someone who owed him money.) but otherwise in great shape, and the seller is pretty sure it's a K04 turbo.
Here's my ?'s
1. I am aware of the bottom end being less solid than my 00 1.8t, should I just use the head from this donor engine assuming I have no piston or rod damage?
2. Could the head from this donor engine be warped causing the gasket to go, or is this common?
3. i am assuming if i use the K04 i will need a new tune, is this true.
4. If i Don't use the new turbo, is there anything in the new engine that I may need to know about which may cause me to need a new tune anyway.
5. Is this a good deal?
6. i also found a built head for the same price, might this be a smarter buy?
I am looking to possibly pick up this engine within the next few days so any help ASAP would be greatly appreciated.
