RPM Question
2002 A4 Quattro 1.8T,5 speed. On flat highway 5th gear crusing at 80mph, the car isturning 3500 almost 3600rpm. Is this normal rpm for that crusing speed?If not, what could cause this? It seems very high to me...

I think I'm almost to 4k by 80mph with the same car. I wish it was geared wider.
But yeah what's happening to you is normal for this car. There was a thread about this not long ago, try searching if you want details.

sure..... my toyota is at 4k at 80 miles... but the gear itself is longer... it still increases speed w/ small climb in RPM.
all 5 speeds are pretty much like that

My MR2 is at 4100 RPM at 80,is supercharged and i drive much faster then 80 for sustained periods of times goin to the airport every week. It will go 5k all day and its modded with 16lbs or so of boost and 176k miles on it. Maintence is key for any high revver. Would u rather have a Rustang that can't get out of its own way on the highway. Spinning 2k RPM and always requiring a downshift? Usually life long automatic guys are alarmed by the revs my MR2 produces but its all good.

i'm used to it. so i don't really notice how loud it is
