Question S5 Steering stiff notch when cold

Hi,

I've recently just bought an Audi S5 registered in 09. It seems to have a lump in the steering for the first 10-15 minute of driving.

I only notice it when going around slow corners and it's enough for you to require both hands. The same applies whilst coming out of the turn. After a while the steering is completely normal and you can let it self straighten out of corners no problem.

Could this be whilst the engine or power steering fluid is cold? When the engine is warm its less noticeable.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Thanks,

Dan

Try flushing out the system with the correct fluid. (G002-000) Often time this helps. Also are there any codes stored in the system. There are some tests you can run on it.

Hi thanks for your reply. I've just ordered a VAG-COM, can I use this to retrive the codes? I'm a rather amateur mechanic. Looking at the steps on another post, this doesn't look as simple as an oil change. Would it require completely flushing or fluid extraction and topping up?

Thanks,

Dan
