Default TCM compatibility

Hey guys I am shopping for a used TCM and found one on ebay #4BO 927 156 G that is close to my mine #4b0 927 156 ff except the last letters.

Does anyone know whether these are compatible?

Thanks,
kevin

Nope, the last letters indicate they are different.

I've found that there seems to be very little cross-compatibility with TCMs. My buddy's 96 A4 12v auto needs a TCM, and we tried several from different cars. One from a 98 tip (didn't think it'd work but it was worth a shot), one from a 95 100cs 12v (didn't work), and one from a 93 quattro coupe (completely different design). Seems that in order to get his car working right, we need to find another one from a 96 12v auto A4 or there's no luck.
