Transmission swap question.
Hello everyone. I have a 1999 A4 with the 2.8 5v Motor. The transmission I believe is the 01a, and has the typical first gear whirl. I'm nervous my teeth are going to sheer off and I want to start looking for a fix. I heard the 01e trannys are boss, could I go to the junkyard, pull a 01e & center diff, and bolt it right up to my 2.8 5v?
Also does anyone have any info on this common problem, some say a bad bearing, some say a bad gear that eventually kills it self... If it's not a gear, and it is just a bearing, where can I find a full rebuild kit with bearings?
If its any other help, one time when I was driving down the highway in 5th, I decelerated and this vibrating metalic squeel came about, i felt it in my shifter and my clutch pedal, depressed the clutch and it went away. the noise didn't persist, and went away in under 10 seconds. The car had been sitting for a winter before I drove it, didn't know if it mightve just been surface rust on something.... Any suggestions?
