Default TT door sensor (?) problems

I own a 2002 audi tt roadster 225hp with almost 100k miles on it. recently when i close my driver side door the display still shows the image of the car with the door open. when i drive it stays on. opening and closing the door helps after about 20 times, playing with the windows dosnt seem to do much. the wierdest thing is sometimes opening the door is the best way to "trick" the car into "thinking" that the door is closed.

Has anyone ever had such a problem? where is the door sensor located? i need to get this fixed because sometimes i cant lock my car and the buzzer is on while driving VERY ANNOYING! thanks everyone.

Default RE: TT door sensor (?) problems

I have a TT as well with the same exact problem. Myalarm doesn'tturnon and the buzzing gets on my nerves. If the alarm doesactivate the switch will go off saying the doors open and there goes my alarm.[:@]
Now, I havent tried this but it has been done and it did work. Click .
If that doesn't seem too easy you can buy a new door latch mechanism from the stealer, I was told $250.00 for mine.
good luck

i mean only real option is taking out the door switch and playing w/ the contact and seeing if there is some kind of corrosion... if its internal. there is nothing you can do.

a cheap fix would be to remove the connector andon the harness side and put a paper clipfrom one side to the other... tricking the central locking module into thinking that the door is always closed. until you get enough money to purchase a new switch. put electrical tape around it so it doesn't ground out accidentally.

Default RE: TT door sensor (?) problems

Well thanks for the links and ideas. i havnt had any time to spend with my tt latley since ive been moving to arizona to go to school (finally out of my parents house at 20, pathetichuh?). anywho, i changed the oil and the air filter today, all i have left to fix before its back in tip top shape is that annoying door and my esp. ill do more reaserch on the esp before i ask any questions about it...

more to the point: How do i get to that micro switch??? i dont know how to remove the door panel and i cant find any advice on it anywhere! there are 2 "screws" (?) on the door where it touches the car frame when closed (does that make any sense?) wich appear to be the only screws that can be removed to take off the panel. i would gladly remove them, if i could. i have many different screw bits but none seem to fit. the heads haverequire a bit that idont have... illlook into that.

anyway (damn am i scatterbrained today) should i remove those bolts/screws or is there something else i have to do to get the door panel off inorder to check the microswitch?

thanks for putting up with my rambling

Default Door latch problem repaired

Sorry I'm a few years behind on this post...

I just dealt with this issue yesterday. The microswitch sensor engages a cam to know what position the latch is in. The switch uses a plunger to engage the plastic cam...so inevitably, the parts wear out. In my case, the plunger wore a groove into the cam (fortunately).

To get to the door latch assembly, remove the door card. This is done by rotating the silver cap under the handle to access the only bolt holding the card on. There is a small hole on the underside of this cap. Use a pick or jeweler's screwdriver to release the holding tab internally to allow the cap to rotate off. The door card has weatherstrip molding on both ends. Remove them by pulling them away from the card. Your door card is ready to remove. Pull directly up and then out. There are several connectors near the door speaker that need to be disconnected.

You're ready to remove the latch assembly. There is a plastic cover that snaps into place. Remove that, being careful not to ruin the plastic rivet that hold the cover to the door. This is removed by (carefully) pulling the center round rivet out. Remove the linkage that goes from interior handle to latch. There is a hook on the handle and a slotted attachment to the latch. Next, remove the two internal 12 point screws that attach the latch to the door. If you don't have internal 12 point sockets, you can get away with loosening them with a firm grip and pliers..but will damage the screws. Once it is loose, you will be able to remove the cable that attaches to the outer handle easier. To do this, rotate the cable end about 90° and slide it out. Now you're ready to remove the latch assembly from the door.

NOW

You will see the red and blue wires that lead to the microswitch. If your part wore like mine, notice the groove in the cam. This is good. There is a metal clip that holds the microswitch in place. Remove that to move the microswitch out of the way. You will be able to rotate the cam by using your finger like the striker in the latch.

You will need standard J-B Weld, hobby micro files, exacto knife, rubbing alcohol, Q-tips and toothpicks.

Clean the groove with alcohol and Q-tip. Mix J-B Weld and apply to the groove with the toothpick, being sure to work it into the groove. Let it set at room temperature for 6 hours. At 6 hours, it is set up enough to smooth down with your exacto knife and file, but not hard enough to use yet. Once you have it smoothed out to the original cam profile, assemble the latch and re-install! Give it about 15-16 hours to fully cure before use.

You're done! Hope I was able to help!
