Default Two Quickies. Idle RPMs & accelleration Q's

First Question:

What is the normal idle RPM range on my 03 Audi A4 1.8T? It seems to be idling a little rough and close to 1K. Is this normal?

Second Question:

When I get on the gas or if I'm climbing a hill, there seems to be a metallic-type smell that comes through the vents. Once again, is this normal?

I just bought my A4 this weekend and I'm taking it back to the dealer to have them look at some misc. things and I just wanted to get an idea of whether or not I should be concerned about the above mentioned things.

idle speed should be around 800 and its probably the catalyst that's bad so get it checked for fault codes

I would also clean out the TB, check for boost leaks, & make sure all the filters are clean.

Not sure if this helps but I did notice that the idling seems to be at 800 which appears to be the correct area, but if I have the AC on, the idling is drasticly smoother. When off, it seems a lot rougher. Does this help with any DX?

Well, the dealer didn't find any fault codes. Maybe it's just me. My service tech did mention that he thought the fuel pump was a little louder than normal but it was still functioning correctly and because of that, he couldn't replace it as it's covered under warranty and if I want it to be covered, it has to be not functioning.
