well i have about 35k on my clutch new one put in by the previous owner, it grabs and dosent feel like its slipping, but lately ive noticed or it feels to me like the length the padel goes before the clutch grabs is less than when i bought th ecar sometime last year. is it just me or is the clutch starting to go.

Sounds like he didn't replace the throwout bearing when he replaced the clutch. Thats the bearing that pushes on the pressure plate thats connected to the pedal. If its worn it takes more pedal travel to engage the clutch. Its not a major thing to worry about un-less you start hearing gear noise when the clutch is released.

One way to find out if the problem is the clutch itself not gripping anymore (or losing grip strength) is to get up around 45-50mph in top gear and floor the gas. If your clutch is on the way out, this usually will be where it'll slip.

If that's the case, then I agree with you - his answer is more likely. If you wonder (in the future) whether your clutch is starting to slip, try out what I posted - it's a pretty accurate gauge of whether your clutch is going out or not.

throw out or thrust bearing as its called has little to do with travel of the clutch pedal ( any problems going into gear? ) ifyes its not the thrust bearing and could be the system needs bleeding, thrust bearing is more of a noise thing and you would hear it
