a code reader would be great, but i am an auto mechanic and i would definitley use a more expensive vag-com to make some money on the side. spending a little bit of money on a machine that wont do all you want seems dumb.

Just depends on what you want. Does your laptop only have a USB port?? Does it have a serial port too?

HEX-USB+CAN is the most versatile cable for the money. If you buy a dongle off some place like obdtool you'll have to still pay for the registered software which is $100. If you buy one of rosstech's the cable automatically enables the ross-tech trial software to full version for free.


Basically:

KEY-COM KEY-USB

Don't support CAN bus cars which all new audi's are.

Then pick either serial or usb.

HEX-COM+CAN HEX-USB+CAN

Does it all including CAN bus.

Again pick your serial or usb connector.
