Default Welding a cracked mag wheel?

Could anyone give me a piece of advice on how safe is to weld a small crack of about one inch on the interior side of the wheel (the side where there are no spokes)? Of course it's gonna be done bya specialized service.

Thanks in advance for your help

Wheels are welded in the first place, if you can find a shop to do it I would imagine it would be fine.

It can be welded, and it should be fine, but I would definitely make a note of the wheel and inspect it periodically after the repair is done just to make sure no other cracks appear in the material surrounding the crack.

it needs to be MIG welded then balanced before and after the tyre is fitted, personally if it suffered this type of damage I would buy a new one

omg i have welded my wheels so many times because i cant find a replacement

The thing you gotta make sure is that after it is welded there are no 'pin hole' cracks in your rim. After the welder welds your wheel, some of the pores may reopen in the diecast. This will lead to many pinholes and slow leaks. Just spray some simple green after he welds it around and see if you see bubbles.

Anyway, if you can find a replacement, it would be worth it to just buy it. I welded my rims and it just ended up cracking in another place, and for 150 + a wheel for welding its not worth it.

if you use the proper inert gasses when welding with TIG then there should be no problem its a specialist trade you know my hated brother reminds me of this
