I know the answer to this question, Ross-tech, but I'm still wondering if there isn't another way... What are all these things I keeping seeing on eBay that claim to be a vag com setup?(they always show an OBDII/USB plug with a cd, is this a scam or do are these working versions of the vag com software?) Has anyone found a way to get the software at a better price?

 

Just download the free software from Ross-tech. It'll do most of what you need. There are portions of the computer that are not accessible through the free version, but it can handle quite a bit. Go ahead and get it and buy the cable from eBay, and revisit the topic if you come across something on your car at some point that cannot be handled by the downloaded VagCom.
