Default 1998 2.8 30v a4q cat help

Ok...so I am pretty sure I have a bad cat. however i cant pass emissions without getting a temp fix until i can afford the 1000$ to get it replaced.

currently i just stuck a doubled up spark plug non fouler in 1 of the o2 sensor's the passenger side one, it did not remove the cel(after taking off battery for 40 seconds to check.)

code its running is P0422 - Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

does anybody have any idea what i can do for a cheap simple fix just to pass emissions till i can get it fixed. I cant afford to not have a plated car right now...no car=no job=no fixed cat, plus other problems.

any and all ideas just to get that CEL off so i can pass emissions would be greatly appreciated...cheaper the better.

Universal cats are less than $100 and probably about that much to have welded in by an exhaust shop. Then it's a permanent fix rather than temporary.

getting a universal cat is not the answer, if i had the 200$ to get that done and welded id have the 200 more to just get the waiver. my job requires me to drive so no driving=no money =/

This is a very temporary fix, I am moving to houston soon where they have the lovely smog checks, so I can not just leave it like that.

although once that is fixed, and offtopic note i looked at your profile is the krautoparts led interior kit worth it? I was looking at some of the videos and it looked stunning

Ok then what budget are you working with? A dollar figure would help with options. What is telling you that you have a bad cat? Driving impressions, codes, etc? It may be something else.

As for the LEDs, the kit is absolutely worth it. I have all of them - plates, interior, and reverse lights. I love them. You will too.

the code is, its the passenger side cat, do i have to run an obd2 clear after i install the non fouler? I just did that yesterday at an autozone but from what i have heard it resets the readiness flags

as for my budget its only around 50$ sadly =/, I am completely broke from this

and awesome as soon as i get this cat issue sorted, ill be getting a hold of that kit =)
