Weird residue near the rear window

I have what looks like glue all over the one of the pillars near the rear window. What would this be from and what is a good way to clean it?

weird residue on pillars

I thought I was the only one with this problem. The Oxyclean spray bottle worked for me, check for color fastness first. I sprayed a clean cloth with the oxyclean and then wiped it off.
