Default A4 code reading

Hello fellow Audi enthusiasts I just recently bought my first Audi 96 A4 Quattro 2.8 (black on black) super slick and I love it. But with any used car there are things that need to be fixed and for this it looks like I need a code reader. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what brand or type, I'm pretty sure I need a OBD II but I was looking at an online add for one and the company suggested that for Audi's that it's best to get a VAG unit. What is the difference and what should I get? Also the climate control unit fades in and out, is this common? how do I fix it? Thanks for you time.

Welcome to the forums Drocka4!

Everything here will tell you to get the VAG cable. As for the climate control unit I don't have any experience with your car. If you post a thread in the A4 forums someone there should be able to help out.

Good luck!
