Audi Newb: Good snow car in 5k- range??

Audi Newb: Good snow car in 5k- range??
Hi All,
First of all I know nothing about Audi's. I live in South Lake Tahoe, and if any of you have been there in the winter, you know that a good winter car is a must. Currently I drive an old 83 Toyota 4x4 pickup. Unstoppable in snow, but a no frills ride. I'm just curious about Audis and was hoping to get some advice. Specifically, I'd bee looking at older used models, from late 80's up to late 90's in the 4 or $5000 and under range. What I really want is, after owning a pickup, a car experience, smooth ride but with AWD or 4wd for winter.
