Default new a4, should I go diesel or petrol

About to order a new a4 located in Ireland. Should I go diesel instead of pertol?? The salesman says the 2ltr diesel will resale better than the 1.8ltr petrol. I never had a diesel, (have had 4 other a4's all petrol) Is diesel better on milage? is it nosey ? are service costs higher ? Thanks in advance ffor any advice or comment

Hi Martinslan,
DIESEL.
Better Mileage, i'm doing 900km on a tank with the automatic, Tuned 2002 VW Bora1.9TDI.
Diesel Engines last longer than petrol. We have+100000km on it with no problems.
I calculated 3 years ago that it would cost us 14Cents Canadian a kilometer, with 30000km a year.
Last year, 2007, it was 23Cents, we bought new Yokohama's and Diesel is more expensive.

it's a bit noisier at start-ups.Don't know about the PD's ( I've heard they are quieter)

How much do you drive a year and is there an difference in insurance? You may want to calculate your Break-Even point for both cars.

Good luck with your purchase.
