hi this is my first time to an audi forum. i have been a audi tech for almost 2 years now. i currently do not have an audi and have had a trans am for awhile that i have been modding but with rumors of the rs3 coming to the us next summer it is for sale and im saving for my down payment on one. of course if it doesnt im just going with a used s4 4.2

Hey tech, Im from mass too, maybe you could help me out. I have a 97 1.8t my first one and I love the car. I'm starting to have problems with what I think is either a blown turbo or head gasket. I have a real heavy white smoke coming out of the exhaust and it stinks. I was told that oil is somehow leaking into the manifold causing the smoke. [:@]

 

usually tons of white smoke is a turbo. if you take the hose off that goes to your intercooler and its full of oil your turbo is bad

 

i had it checked and they said it was the turbo and that the 1.8t often have problems with their turbos when they reach around 130k
