newb audi owner...couple questions...
first of all i have been an audi a4 owner for less than 12 hours and i must say so far so good.
i bought a 1999 audi a4 quattro with the 2.8 5 speed last night. has 182xxx miles and loaded to the max. i recently sold my 2002 camaro for this car due to the fact that i now have a 5 month old son. the whole carseat in the backseat thing with a 2 door coupe got old quick. so i decided to look around.
well i narrowed it down to a lincoln ls v6, v8 auto or standard. or a audi a4 2.8 auto or standard. after seeing so much bad press about issues with the lincoln i slowly started to look more toward the audi. however i also was reading a lot of horror stories about the audi. so to sum it all up i gave 3k for a car that seems to be in VERY good shape and it books out well above 3k anywhere you look (kbb.com, nada.com, edmunds.com) at the value.
with all that being said the previous owner said it did burn a little oil but told me this was normal and that every third fillup i should check it out and add as needed. is this a problem? also he said the car has only had two owners (his father and himself) and has never been in an accident. he also mentioned that he just had the car serviced with a new timing belt and tuneup. while the car was at the shop he asked if it was time for a new clutch and the mechanic said it was fine. is this bad that the original clutch is still in the car? or is it a testiment as to how well the car has been taken care of? is there anything i should look for? what can i use for gas regular or premium. can these cars go well into high miles? 182xxx usually would scare me and does but it was just in such good shape and was still so tight and drove like a champ. should i do any basic mods, cold air? ect...
well hopefully this will be a good experience. i have to say i was driving the car home last night and it handled every bit as well on the curvy roads as my camaro did and then some. im kinda liking the whole daddy car scene now!
thanks in advance for the feedback,
keith

Ive seen a few 2.8s in here with 200k and above so im sure you will have a long running time with this car. Theres not alot of engine mods to do to this car like there is for the 1.8T unless your looking at spending tons of cash. Post any further questions in the B5 area and read the stickys.
