Since I can't have my Mercedes Benz back I'll have to make due with my A6 Quattro
SubscribeHello all,
I'm new to the forum and hope get a wee bit more mileage out of my 2000 A6 Quattro wagon that has over 242,000 miles on it (so far). It's been a fairly reliable car, having been dealer maintained most of it's life.
Our friend, the first owner had it as a company car where most of the >miles came from but he took very good care of it. We acquired it from him as a college graduation gift for my stepson. Who, in turn routinely had it dealer maintained & even purchased new tires, as well.
My stepson took a job in the Cayman Islands and left it with us to sell on his behalf for Kelly Bluebook value ~$3800. But no real buyer's interest (as the high miles scared most away) And so ...it sat for 6 months.
While sitting, we assumed the sunroof leaked and started having what appeared to be intermittent transmission problems (wouldn't recognize that the brake pedal was engaged to put it in gear & the alarm would go off for no reason at all).
Last October an uninsured motorist (16 yr. old kid) slammed into me, totaling my newly restored 1985 Mercedes Benz (I really miss that car!). Well, I decided to purchase my stepson's Audi to help us both out of a sticky situation for ~$1200 assuming I'd be paying to fix the transmission!
Turned out it wasn't transmission but rather a damaged computer module underneath the passenger seat after it got soaked from water seeping in on floorboards (though leak source still unresolved), ~$900 to replace
(I would have saved about half that, had I researched the matter first - the repair shop jacked the price of the computer module waaaay up!)
Had a few issues/general maint. care since then that I've also taken care of...
a) U-joint repaired on muffler system, ~$200
b) all new brakes & rotors, ~$600
c) replaced ABS & O2 sensors & catalytic converter module, ~$1100
Hence, I have put into it what it should have originally sold for had it not been for the high mileage.
Here's where I could use a little forum guidance...
There are few new issues that, after reading numerous threads on this forum I now realize may be common problems.
...so for the most part? -information contained in the threads noted below should help me resolve my issues.
However, if anyone cares to relay any further clarifications, watch-outs, or advice for any of the following, please do - I welcome any assistance you might offer (thanks).
Audi Forum relevant discussions to my vehicle’s current issues:
1. Water gets inside vehicle on passenger-side - not been successful at locating water source ...though, it's good possibility it's under the battery having gleaned this new insight from this forum (most helpful!)

2. AC stops blowing cold when idling (will most likely take it to AC specialist and pay to have it fixed right & parts warranted)

3. High pitched whining noise (noise increases & seemingly disappears at higher speed) that I think may be a wheel bearing going bad -or CV Joint ???

The threads noted don't necessarily address my specific problem but are helpful in that I now know more about what could potentially be involved.
One last thing about myself... I DON'T DO AUTO REPAIR WORK (but hate to be treated like a dumb gal when I take my car to someone who SHOULD know).
Thank you for taking the time to read my first post and I look forward to hearing back from the forum.
