Default What should I buy? S4,A4,Allroad (Avant)

Hi all,
First post in the forum. I am trying to decide on my new-(used) Audi and am having problems deciding.

Here are my choices: (All Manuals)
2004 Allroad 2.7T/4.2
2004 S4 Avant 4.2
2005.5 A4 Avant 2.0T

All have around 40,000 miles and are Audi Certified.

I live at 9000 ft altitude and would like the extra power. The only reason I am considering the A4 Avant is the gas mileage. I have a GTI VR6 right now, but it is time to move on. I am sick of getting stuck with the huge snow year we are having in Colorado.

Any ideas on a car that might have a few less mechanical issues, would be appreciated, but they all would have an Audi Certified warranty.

One last question. What isn't Audi going to cover with the extended warranty?

Thanks Bennett

Well, you need to figure out what you want to do because the Allroad is kinda a polar opposite to the S4 and the A4. Me personally I would get the S4 or the allroad with th 2.7t. If you need the ability to hall some stuff and don't want to get a roof rack, then the allroad might be the car for you. If you need s nice fast car, that is decently spacious, fun to drive, and can go fast the S4 sounds right. If you want something you can mod the **** out of and get huge numbers with the assistance of a turbo then get the A4.

alright so now, I looked again and all are avants so I would go S4 if I were you, unless you want the extra ride height and then the Allroad would be my choice.

Yeah, they are all wagons. I am leaning towards the S4. It looks to me like the 2.7T might get a mile or two better mileage, but that isn't a deal breaker.

I do have about 4 feet tall walls of snow surrounding my driveway this year, so clearance might be nice, but I have been driving a 1" lowered GTI since 2000, and if it was all-wheel drive, I probably would have rarely been stuck in my driveway.

Another factor is Turbos lose much less power at 9000ft altitude. the 4.2 would lose at least 10% of it's power up here, but it would still have plenty of power.

Keep the advice coming! Thanks in advance!

yeah i wish I had 4ft of snow surrounding me right now, but instead it's just like 10 outside and was a nice bluebird day(we've gotten some cloud cover now), making me wish I was in the mountains and not F*<king Ohio.

Also if you are looking to modify the engine at all, the 2.7t is a very, very mod friendly engine while the 4.2 is not as friendly but still there is stuff out there for it.
just something else to consider.

I'm thinking the 4.2 has plenty of power, and I would not need to mod it, and the 2.7T would only need a chip at the most.

I am coming from a VR6 (174hp before the altitude decrease) plus KN air intake, and both of these options will have significantly more power then that. They will weigh a bit more, but the horsepower increase is significant.

Dude ... go for the S4
It will probably eat gas, despite the mileage ratings. Especially if you like to push the gas pedal as much as I do.
For the extended warranty ... they generally don't cover electrical. Also you may have a deductible (mine is $50, no big deal). Ask your sales guy to be sure before you commit.
