Default Moving to L.A. Help me out

I currently live in the Dallas metroplex area. Im planning on moving to the L.A. area. Im going to Santa Monica College and was planning on living there, is this a good choice? And where is a decently priced place to live? Also, i'm a certified bartender and if anyone knows a good place to work or has connections then let me know! Thanks

You won't find anything in SM for cheap, but it is rent controlled. Culver City, Mar Vista, Venice (although Venice has become pricey, too) would be places to check out. Also west of Westwood but not yet Santa Monica is a place to check (it's part of a larger area know as West L.A. Best to get the local "Apt. Finder" mag when you visit next. They're free and they have all the listings. Secondly and very importantly... get a Thomas Guide Map to help you get around. It is a thick book-format map of L.A. Everyone uses it - it's very easy to find any street address. Good luck!

Wow!...
My first (crappy) apartment was on Caswell!
I got out of Mar Vista in less than a year and moved to the Fairfax district where I lived for eleven years. I was there for all of the "me first" eighties and left just before the riots.
I have good friends still there. In fact, one of my closest friends was in Boston for one of his friend's wedding two weeks ago, so I shot up to Beantown for the weekend - it was good to meet up after seven years!
I have a nephew in OC - he's an engineer for Stoptech!

Caswell's just off Centinela, right? My parent's house was a few blocks west of Centinela, just south of the airport. Coincidently, my mother was born in the Boston area, but got together with this handsome sailor from England, and they set off for California together. The rest, as they say, is history. I hadn't heard of Stoptech saw their site - looks like they're in the forefront of 'friction'. ..... Hey when you were in West L.A. did you ever happen buy a little hole-in-the-wall stand at Lincoln & Supurba in Venice called The Great Western Steak & Hoagie Co.? -Best cheesesteak hoagies on the west coast.
