Good luck. I've tried to do this for years. Anything newer than 20 years old cannot be licensed in the US (although you can drive it on the track all you want). After 20 years there doesn't seem to be a problem.

Can it be done? Yes. Is it hideously expensive and a huge headache? Yes. Does the car have to be over 20 years old? No. If they did, MotoRex and RB Motoring couldn't have legalized the Skylines, early Evos, and JDM Silvias that were brought over. The car will have to be federalized with respect to lighting, emissions, and crash standards. It'll have to pass an inspection that makes a colonoscopy look superficial. You'll need reams of documentation from God knows how many agencies.

In short, don't bother. Smash your nuts in a door several times - it'll be about as painful but not nearly as costly. A lot of things are costly but potentially worth it (like some engine swaps), but this kind of thing could take you a couple of years to complete at a terrifying cost. You honestly could probably recreate the car using European parts on a US-spec car for less money, time, and aggravation.

Money makes the paperwork appear. Presto its magic my friend. Money talks it can be done. Not that I have seen this particular situation done. But who doesnt like money?
