Timing belt has to be replace after sometime..and it's a simple process.. any local shop will be able to take care of it at a fraction of the cost (unless u know how to do it yourself). Dealers are a rip off...of course unless it's electrical / warranty issues, then i'll bring that to the dealer..otherwise if it's mechanical..body..etc..any local shop can take care of that.

 

i don't know if you said so or not, but how many miles do you have on your vehicle?

 

wow i never heard someone talk about a dealership with such high regard. heres a little wake up call for you.....they still use mechanics. if a showroom and aservice writerwith a tie is what you need to feel you have brought your car to the right place....your a moron. there is nothing special about audi techs. S4's arent that detailed. its a a4 with turbos. im an independant that worked for dealerships and found there is usually one or two guys out of 10 that know what there doing. dealerships rip people off. the only thing that a audi tech might get over me is a class they get sent to for working on a particular car. anyone can get the self study programme for themselves from bentley publishers, i have all of them. trust me when i say "dealerships rip people off." ive seen it first hand and on a regular basis. if you find a independant take it too him. s4 timing belts take alot of work but are pretty easy overall, just alot of stuff to take apart and put back together, otherwise its a very straightforward service. using a cam bar and crank pin it is almost impossible to mess up this service. 1.8t's are more risky. i do them for 500 labor plus parts, it takes about 6 hours for me to do. it sounds like your almost in the right place with your thoughts but ignorance definately sways your decisions as to how complicated these cars are. audi v6's are in my opinion one of the easiest engines to service, but they are time consuming. i hope this steers you away from the dealerships and saves you some money. hopefully you find a good independant in your area to work with.

 

Well said rayveedub... and dreamcar, you can always ask a friend to help you out. Manuals, some support and ***** will get the job done, you must be a half empty kinda guy. I don't think anyone here is a genius (and if you are, I'm sorry), but everyone's gotta start somewhere!
