Default 05 s4 man trans grind 1st to 2nd in cold

I have 42k on the clock. I recently purchased 4 months ago. It had transwork done at the dealer at 30k. Now that it is colder if i shift from 1 to 2 med speed I get a slight grind noise. Is a bad sincro, or is it just the cold. I read somewhere that people just pushed the clutch in more when its colder. So everyday on the way to work i experiment. Im going to check the fluid level also because the rear seal looks moist but not really bad. Any suggestions...

I know this was almost a month ago, but I'll try to help anyway. If it's cold, it's likely a sign of worn syncros. Sometimes, depending on who does the service, the wrong viscosity of trans oil can cause this to happen, but in extreme conditions (read: extreme cold) it could show up where in normal temps you wouldn't notice it. Unfortunately, I don't know much about the idiosyncrasies of Audi manuals, but I know with my MR2s that using Lucas Oil transmission gear oils seemed to keep this from happening on all but the hottest/coldest days. Obviously, as the syncros wore, this got worse, but I'd recommend contacting Getrag (reportedly the manufacturer of the manual in the B6) and asking them for some advice. They're usually pretty good about responding to customer inquiries, especially for fluid advice.
