Gears grind
MY gears grind mildly when I shift from 1st to 2nd. But this has only started maybe in the last week or so and I believe it to be of the cold weather settling in. Seems to be the logical reason. I searched it already and came across someone recommending to use GM Synchromesh. My question is, how safe is this to use on Audi vehicles as this product seems to be specified for GM vehicles?
And all this is is transmission fluid correct? So, just replace old fluid with synchromesh? And how many quarts are needed for 01 A4 1.8t QM? Thank you!

*note: the grinding stops after car is warmed up. and it only grinds when I shift from 1st to 2nd

had the same problem, during my first winter in my quattro, replaced gearbox oil with with mobil1 and it quieted down. got the grind again this year so i replaced with synchromesh, so far feels great, ask wood_e about synchromesh hes the guy that suggested to me and hes had it in there for over 20k miles.
So, I am assuming that synchromesh and MT-90 will basically do the same job. Does anyone know which one is better? I will purchase tommorow as I should have suffiicient income to do so.
I tried to follow the threads by e-wood and I pm'd him as to find out the results on the synchromesh, but he did not respond. But what I found is that he sold his car Audi on ebay and on the listing he placed " I treated the trans with GM synchromesh and it shifted like butter.". So, I assume all went well.
Now I am on the border choice of GM Synchromesh and MT-90. I think I will just go for the cheaper one as they both seems to be able to solve the problem with great recommendation. I will post in maybe a week or so to write back up on how it goes GOD willing. Peace!

I am not a mechanic and do not know about changing fluids personally, but I am going tomorow to purchase the manual transmission fluid. Does anyone know if I need to purchase something else toflushthe engine of the old oil before replacing the new oil? Or can I just replace it after draining the old fluid?
Just learned something new. The oil has to be "friction modified". I just bought some and am going to exchange for friction modified one. Just thought I should add this if any comes across this thread and wants to try it out. GM Synchromesh Friction Modified.
