2000 s4 - lots of back speaker rattles?
hello all.
i'm new to this forum and to the s4. i currently have a 99 a6 2.8 quattro that my wife just inherited from me. after picking my 2000 s4 up this weekend, i started driving directly to dc. the pickup on the interstate is great. the ride was a little bumpier than my a6, but i attribute that to the suspension differences. my main issue was that the passenger side rear speaker rattles loudly on some bass frequencies at almost all volumes. i have done some research on audiworld.com and can't seem to determine whether my rattles are coming from the speaker itself, or the rear deck. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks. j.

I have this same problem with my passenger side front speaker (another item the dealerships could never solve) - it hasn't been on my priority list but I'll get to it eventually I imagine - drives me nuts - its somewhat intermitent in my case - worse with higher humidity. In may case I'm pretty such its the contacts - they need to be cleaned up and possibly connected better. Audi replaced the speaker and it made no difference. When they cleaned the contacts it was better for a while - but has deteriorated again. Hope that helps - let us know.
rs,
at first i was sure that the speaker was blown, but upon lowering the volume to what i would guess is 1-2, the sound went away completely. the sound that occurs i believe is a rattle and not a distortion. although, it's possible that the speaker is touching something under the grill when the notes are played. also, some music plays with no rattle. this all leads me to believe that it might be a mix of the rear deck rattling and a bad speaker. the passenger side is definitely worse off than the drivers side. although, they both make the noise. luckily, the other speakers are fine. the car is certified. so, i guess i'll bite the bullet and take it in for service... any other suggestions short of taking the car in, would be greatly appreciated. thanks for the help guys. j.

it could be blown and still sound fine on some songs, it prolly has to hit a certian freq. to distort
my buddy blew his rear driver side, above the head in his corolla, it sounds fine with the bass down or on low volumes, but when he passes like 25 its sounds terrible, almost sounds like its jingling...
