Default 2001.5 Audi S4 upper tie rod assembley...WTF!??!

Hey everyone,

i own a 2001.5 audi S4 and am currently trying to change the right side upper tie rod. i have done many tie rods before and have no idea why the ones on this car will not come out.

the hex bolt turns freely, i've followed instructions and tried many other things while trying to get it out.

i do not understand why it doesn't just slide out... i have tried everything and have no idea whats going on. its pretty silly if you ask me.

please help if you can

Thanks,
Maloney

The horizontal pinch bolt must be completely removed as well as the vertical alignment bolt.

You don't need a pickle fork, but you may find it easier to remove if you spread the gap on the steering arm a little with a screwdriver as you pull down on the tie rod.
