Default 2001 s4 alternator

is there an easy way to replace the alternator without putting the car into the service position? if not is there any advice on how to get the car into the service position? videos, step by step instructions, etc.?

Basically there is no easy way to change the alternator at all. Its really not hard, its more that its time consuming. I recommend that you find a timing belt DIY and that will help you with getting the car into the service position or removing the front end, whichever your preference. When I did mine I removed the whole front end and did the timing belt and accessories while I was in there. I've heard that some have had success by moving some things around and coming in from the bottom to get to the alternator which I can see as being possible, but since I didn't do that I don't know.
