There is no 2.0t for the 2002 TT. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the 2.0t only comes in models 2005.5 and up. Now there is two versions of the TT though, 180hp version and a 225hp version. Obviously, the 225 would be a better bang for your buck. But still, the S4 would be better than either. Theres never a replacement for displacement. Smaller engines can only go so far before having to do more work to keep up with bigger engines. They're both turbo'ed, obviously, so it comes down to do you want a turbo-4 or a turbo-6? Also, costs is a big factor too. I own an S4. Repairs are probably twice as much on it as it would be if I had an A4 or TT instead (both come with the same motor, 1.8T.) But as far as basic power, the S4 comes with more out of the box. And the basic chip with diverter valves, intake, and exhaust would put it well past a TT with the same upgrades. So think about costs coming into play a lot too. I still prefer the S4, although the TT is a good second choice.

thanks evelluser, i hear what your saying i was just wondering if the tt could keep up with the s4 because its smaller and doesnt have all wheel drive which is a plus when it comes to speed and quickness.
what about a 2005 tt 2.0t vs a 2002 s4? those are pretty much the models im deciding between cause i dont like the looks of the s4 after 2002. what about handling also?

FonzoB5S4, the tt didnt come in all wheel drive until 2008. im talkin about the 2 wheel drive version that came before that, the 2.0t. remember that i might be buying a used one like 07 or sooner

every audi comes with either fwd or awd (quattro).
this is an 05' 3.2' quattro:

http://www.cars.com/audi/tt/2001/
Anyway i'd definately go with the s4 if youre going for big numbers, decent suspension and a hefty maintenance regiment.
the tt, especially the 1st gen has issues at high speed and was involved in alot of lawsuits for fatal accidents in its early days. this issue has been addressed on the second gen. the 1.8t and 2.0t engines are great. the 1.8t is better imo. you can make some decent numbers with a turbo upgrade and a good suspension. the front wheel drive option it gonna kill all your cornering abilities.
and yes the s4, stock, can take any stock tt.
