Default 2005 S4 Audio Question

Hello. New Audi owner - my baby is a gorgeous 2005 B6 S4. Totally stock, though that won't last ;-)

It has a 6cd in-dash cd changer and upgraded bose system. Originally I was going to simply add an iPod adaptor to the existing system, however, a week after i brought the car home, the in-dash cd changer is broken. It will play the cds currently loaded, but won't load or eject. also has this annoying squeak which, while barely noticeable, drives me bat-crazy.

So, what i'm thinking is it might be better all round to change out the entire stereo, however, does anyone know if that will negate the upgraded bose sound system? If anyone has done this, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks, and oh yes, the obligatory photos:

You can replace it with a factory bose unit or get fixed by the dealer and your problem will be solved.

Bose is good but not great. If you want to upgrade the stereo do everything, replace the bose speakers and headunit wit all aftermarket stuff. I think some speakers will work with the factory bose headunit (not all), and im pretty sure the bose speakers wont work well if at all with an aftermarket headunit. So most agree, all or nothing.

thanks, that's all very helpful. I really want to get rid of the Symphony II unit - i hate in-dash cd changers. but, i like the speakers...didn't want to do a full rip and replace.

guess i'm stuck with a casette iPod adapter until i figure it all out.

Agree with the "all or nothing" comment. Bose with non-Bose components doesn't work well.

When you say "in-dash" does that mean the cd changer is inside the head unit? Or is it the cd changer that goes in your glove box? If the latter, I have one I will sell you for cheap (I replaced my whole system).

the POS cd-changer is IN the dash, not the glovebox unfortunately. So i'm just going to add a DICE iPod adapter for now and hope that what's broken with the cd-changer doesn't affect the DICE performance. If it does, then i'll just purchase another symphony II. I really don't want to replace the entire stereo system at this point - maybe in a year or two - other mods i want to spend money on.

the thing is - i KNEW - KNEW - when we decided to buy this car that the cd changer was going to break. just total sixth sense. they NEVER work and i just totally despise them - that and Nav. If the car wasn't such a totally sweet car i would've considered nixing the deal based on it having an in-dash cd changer, but - love is love and i couldn't say no to the car. I just was hoping that the changer would last long enough to play music on until we got an iPod adapter - didn't expect it to break within a week of purchase.
