Default Ashtray problems

Ok well i didnt think my s4 had an ashtray....but ive had some tranny problems so i took off the boot and all of that and noticed i do have an ashtray below the tempature settings...but it gets stuck...has anyone else had a sticky ashtray problem?

mine has some change behind it, so if i want to open it i have to pry it open

ya thats what it sounds like everytime i pull it out and push it back in...it sounds like there is change back behind there. Can you take the ashtray holder out?

yea it comes out, easier with the trim off though. dont just pull on it and break it like i did...worst change holder ever

BTW dont put change in your arm rest either. If you tilt it up with change the change can get stuck in the hinges and it wont open.

as said in other similar posts:

change+S4=Death

Yep same here, if you get it closed again, leave it there. Mine was stuck out for two weeks til I got enough change out to get it to stay closed again.

pull the trim around the shifter (should pop off pull straight up)
then pull out the ashtray, u should be able to get under where the ashtray goes
through where the trim was.

invaluable tools: business cards... I used them to slip the stuck coins out...

pennis are fairly easy, its those THICK nickels that are a pain [:@]

i got that same problem in my 01 s4 the ashtray hasnt opened since the day i bought it .. i have even tried prying it and everything and the damn thing will not open.....
