Audi purchasing decision !
Hello all !
I am new to these forums and was wondering if someone could lend some advice to a fellow car enthusiast !
Awd is not negotiable and I have been shopping around for an awd car and Audi's have always caught my eye !
I just have a few questions pertaining to an s4 ?
I must have the 4.2 for it has some of the best torque response I have ever experienced, that being said what sort of gas mileage does the 4.2 get in the a4. Also how reliable is the 4.2 ?
Does it cost much to maintain an audi ? Also is it pricey to modify such vehicles ?
I will be driving across country quite a bit so I wouldn't want to be stranded on an interstate !
And one last question ? The audi rs6, how reliable are the stock turbos ? anyone with first hand experience ?

If you are looking to modify a 4.2l V8 S4 you better have deep pockets. The spec I'm finding says the 4.2L gets between 18-24mpg.
All Audis cost a good amount to maintain. The 4.2l V8 S4 is known for being cheaper to maintain then say the 2.7t Biturbo previous S4 model.
If you are looking for something to tune and love the sound of turbos the B5 S4 2.7t is the way to go. There is a ton more options when it comes to tuning not to mention those options are cheaper. The down side is maintenance can be more since you got two turbos to worry about.
Honestly I like the look of the 4.2L S4 better compared to the 2.7t S4 but I know the 2.7t has more potential on a limited budget. Thats my $0.02

There are many variations of the 4.2l, but they are pretty bullet-proof (reliable). Plenty of power throughout all RPMs. The S4 is a great car, but (depending on the year) I would recommend the A6/S6. If you are travelling cross country, regularly, the comfort of the newer A6/S6 is on par, or better, than the S4. With a longer wheelbase, more room to stretch out (especially with passenger) and an oversized trunk this is the way to go.
Mostly highway miles or a decent amount of "off-roading?" If their is potential for off-roading consider the Allroad 4.2l. If you want the sportiest 4.2l go with the S4. If you want the most comfortable go with the A6.
Coming from a 4.2 owner, you won't be disappointed! (Don't forget about those sexy fenders!)
