I just have a few questions about S4's

How much faster is a manual S4 vs. an auto S4
and are there any reliabilty isues with the auto compared to the stick (I don't plan on modding the car much maybe along the lines of just chipping it)

There about the same, the stick is faster off line, but that's about it.
It's also 6 sd VS 5 sp.

Once you chip & VAG the TIP, it's much better.

I've seen a lot more 6ps fail then TIP's. When a TIP does go it seams to be with STG III cars.

Drive both & decide what you want.

 

tip is beat. HAVE to go manual with this car.

also brought my car in to get tranny and clutch looked at...the guy told me i was lucky i had a manual because the tip tranny is a asssload more $ to fix.

 

thanx guys, i guess i'll have to try out both and see wich i like...I don't really plan on modding this car that much so there really wont be THAT much more stress on the engine and tranny than stock.

 

I have a b5 s4 w/ tip and I have a giac chip and 007 dv's never have had a problem with it. Like 2ks4 said I think you would have to be stage 3 before you started having problems. Good luck.

I have two modded tips if that says anything. Learn how to torque brake the launch and how to use your kickdown at the right time and hanging with the 6-speeds won't be much of an issue. Fact is, in the heat of the moment people get nervous. Shifts are missed, gears are grinded and races are lost. Don't make your decision based on which car is faster - they're really about the same depending on who's driving. I'm talking Stock though. I know you say you won't be modifying your car. Well, you're here aren't you? Won't be long...

 

I love my 6spd but I have already replaced my tranny. as well. My car has 57,000miles on it. But I also treated her kinda rough. What I have been hearing more and more is that the 1st and 2cd gear syncros go out. and if you do like I do and keep driving it you will have a lot more problems just like myself. So just be careful with her and treat her with some respect.

 

beat...how much was that tranny? I just dropped 1200 on parts for new rs4 clutch and lightweight flywheel
