I've scoured the cramed confines of my engine compartment (above and below), searched all types of Audi forums and cannot find the location of my S4's oil filter. Can anyone who's done a DIY oil change provide a precise location of the filter?

 

Its generally above or next to the oil pan... on all cars.

 

lol...I too had this problem the first time I changed the oil. It is on top of the engine, under the center engine cover near the cowl. When you unscrew the cover the old filter lifts out and the new one drops in.

Yep, found it there. Not near the pan, but definitely above it. Thanks for the tip.

 

where's the drain plug, and is it easy to tell between the atf and the drain plug..?
