Buying 2000 s4 with 150,000 miles?
Ok, so this has probably been asked before, but here it is again. So im looking at buying a 2000 S4, im new to Audi's, but have been working on cars for several years. I've found a 00 S4 that seems to be well taken care of, and is in very nice shape. Oil changed every 3000 w/ Synthetic, new timing belt, water pump,power stearing pump and fuel pump were replaced at 147000. Also has all new break pads/rotors. He says he has warmed turbos up properly and cooled them down, not smoking at all.
So basically my question is, is it a smart investment to purchase a s4 with 150,000? I would be paying $6700 for it. What do you guys think?

it sounds like it has been well taken care of. those turbos will be going at any time now. you may want to remove the belly pan and check for excess oil on it. is it manual or tip? what color and interior?
i'd go $6k flat. youre going to be investing a lot of time and money into this car in the long run.

It's the silver exterior/ black interior. Manual 6 speed. has a magnaflow exhaust, and K&N filter too.
The Turbos were my main concern as well, they seem to be functioning properly now but I didnt know how long they would last. Is there any other things I need to check on other than the normal?
Theres another s4 locally with 107,000 miles, TIP, and rebuilt turbos...but I just get the feeling like it has been abused, not in good as shape is this other one. Seems like the owner of this one has taken good care of it, inside and out is spotless.

manual and a magnaflow, not bad. youre main concern is gonna be the turbos. asdide from that youre gonna wanna check for oil leaks, boost hose leaks, vacuum leaks, diverter valve leaks, check 1st and 2nd gears, control arms and leaky aux. water pump.

I would go 6 as well and see if he takes it. Have it scanned with a vag com and see if anything pops because even if the check engine light is not on there could be soft codes stored in the computer. As far as the turbos go I'd say go for it if they don't sound weird or leak oil. I had 215K on a set of K03 turbos without ever replacing them and stay away from the TIP S4.

If it was not chipped, that should help with turbo longevity. It sounds well treated. You should be able to check the oil lines to the turbos for leakage, which could be a sign of failing turbos. I have 204k on my oem turbos (chipped for 130k) and other than a little oil leakage on one, car runs fine. I don't think it has the power it did years ago, but I don't push it that hard anymore other than a lot of high speed, highway driving. Worst case, you're looking at around $3k to replace turbos and about the same for an upgraded clutch and flywheel. There are much cheaper clutch solutions.

Why are you buying the car? How long do you hope to keep it and how much would you be willing to invest in it after the purchase cost?
