Default buying a used s4 need advice!

Hi there guys I am in the process of buying a 2000 S4 w/tiptronic the only thing I believe to be wrong with it is its throwing a cel for secondary air injection I've read on here that is a vacuum leak? Could someone elaborate on this a little more for me please. the car has 98k on it and as soon as I get (if I do) Im going to have the timing belt changed. Any other recomended maintence at this mileage? Should I be scared to buy the carwith that cel? the dealer says it doesnt effect the perfomance at all and it just came on... but who know anyway any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Is the dealer selling this to you with the CEL on?

have them fix it or at least locate it

if you're replacing the timing belt look to change as much as you can also, including water pump, alternator, tensioner, etc. watever you can. i hope you know how much it will cost to do that kind of job if you don't plan on doing it urself

Yeah definitely have him fix it if possible.
I just bought my B5 S4 Avant about 6 weeks ago and the Air Bag light was on. I 'm dumb, and it did not have a manual so I did not know what it meant. He said everything was cool and not to worry. Well duh, turns out the airbags dont work and it is the airbag control unit $$$. He said he will fix it but he is taking his sweet time. It has already been to one shop, and will go to another before he will take it to Audi. Whatever you do just make sure that any repairs he agrees to are in the contract. That way he HAS to fix them or he has to buy the car back. Just my 2 cents.
Good luck!

Seriously man, I don't know if its the dealer that's trying to sell you a car with a CEL on or not, but if it is, tell them to lick your *****.

Dealers really **** me off when they try to screw people. There are too many S4s out there that are reliable and at a reasonable price to settle for something that you know up-front needs work.

Not sure where you are, but here in Seattle there are quite a few S4 sedans from about 7k and up. There are also several B5 avants. One White one Yellow with Alcantera, one santorini (sp?) blueand one red. All are overpriced IMO and have been on the market for about 3 months.

Regardless of what you choose to do just dont rush into anything. Do your homework first with this site, other forums, consumer reports, carfax, etc. Be an expert in whatever year you are looking at. And take it to a mechanic first if possible. And wash your hands...and eat yor vegetables!!

Good luck!
