CEL QUESTION
Hey guys ive had my 01 s4 for a few months now and last weekend the cel came on. I go to UTI(started a month ago) so i had one of my buddies scan for any codes, only one code came up and it said "random misfires in multiple cylinders" i know it could be either fuel, ignition, or compression but dont know what exactly is wrong, so any ideas? and also im getting pretty bad fuel consumption so i checks past threads and it said either bad MAF or coolant temp sensor but the scanner showed they were working properly so idk what else could be wrong. thanks
First off, a ODBII scanner will just show CEL codes, not the stored ones. You NEED to use a Vag-Com. You have NO IDEA if the sensors are working from that scanner.
Get access to the Bentely manual, it has all the test for the sensors, you need a Multimeter, or a Vag-com to do some freeze frame & logging.
On the S4, it can be....
Boost leak
Maf
CTS
O2's
EGT's
Coil packs
Spark plugs
My guess is the first 3. Unplug the MAF & see if they go away, if so, the MAF is either bad, or needs to be cleaned. Boost leak, check the TBB & DV's
CTS, you need to check the resistance @ a certain temp, I don't know it off the top of my head.
