Default Check Engine light on 2000 S4

Recently my check engine light came on, was going to take it to the mechanic but it ended up turning off about a day later. Then 2 weeks later it came on and it has been on for a little over a week. Car is running fine no noticable nosies engine problems or lag in performance. I was planning on taking it into my mechanic but i have a vacation planed for the end of december and i am trying to save every bit of money possible. i only drive about a mile and half to and from work each day and dont run it hard now that the engine light is on. Do you think i am playing with fire or does it sound like something that can wait unitll january?

Welcome to Audiforums i see this is your first post.

Before you make a decision on putting it off take the car to autozone (or somehting like it) and have them use the OBDII diagnostics tool to pull the codes, print em out, and you can post them on here. it might be somehting that you could ignore and drive like 3 miles a day for the next month and be fine.

If we have the codes we might be able to help you diagnose the problem

not to get of topic but they have a problem with those they are very sensitive. I can't count how many we have replaced here at the shop.
