click after timing belt replacement
I got up the courage to change my timing belt on my 2001.5 S4 using the kit from ECStuning. Everything went fine but after I buttoned it back up and started it I hear a clicking sound. I can not hear it from inside the car only when standing next to the engine. The click speeds up with more RPMs. I measured the timing belt about 5 times so I do not think I am off a tooth. My only serious worry is that I moved the passenger side cam shaft and it spun and slammed the valved shut but the forces involved with this should be much smaller than "floating" valves on other cars at high rpm so I do not think I could have done any valve damage. The car drives/pulls fine with no back fire. The click is not fast enough to be the timing belt rubbing on a cover or something. Does anyone have any ideas on what this clicking could be? Or does your S4 click as well.
My 2000 S4 has clicked since I got it. I was worried at first and had a mechanic look at it but he said it's not a problem and everything is running fine. He then did the timing belt job and the engine still sounds the same.
I also replaced the following:
Timing belt,
Timing belt hydraulic tensioner and roller,
Idler pulley,
Water pump,
thermostat,
and serpintine belt.
I am begining to think this is a normal noise. From inside the car I hear nothing and it drives just like before. Thanks for your replys!
