cold weather??

Default cold weather??

2 questions...just wanted to check around here with the fellows who know this car inside and out before a stearlership charges me 150 bucks to joyride my car and then proceed to tell me they dont know whats wrong with it.

1. after a cold start, when i go to accelerate, there is a rediculous hesitation, almost to the point of the car cutting out. I have no CEL on, and no stored codes. the hesitation is really bad. what are some possible causes? once it get going for a few seconds, its fine from then on. i have tried even letting the car warm up for 10 minutes, and it still does this. its only been happening since the cold weather hit a few weeks ago. could the oil weight be wrong maybe?

2. Again, since its been cold, there has been a metallic grinding noise from the engine area. its not constant, and only happens upon spirited acceleration at specific RPM points. I fear its from the turbos, but i had them checked out, and was told there is no shaft play, they could be wrong tho. I was thinking could it be again, wrong oil weight not getting into the turbos? any thoughts at all?

you could have intermittent MAF or lean running cond. faults or Exhaust Gas Temp sensor faults also show up intermittantly and dont throw the check engine light,.

Yeah, unless you dont want to pay them for it. in which case you can have an autoparts store pull the codes and I can tell you what they are with my Vag-com.

You should think about getting one. get it from Ross-tech for like $600 and just put it on a laptop. comes with the plugs and everything.

yea, im planning on getting one, but i am getting a laptop from work in january, so then im going to use that since right now i have only a desktop....

still no ideas on the hesitation and grinding noise?

Engine hesitation is often misfire on certain cylinders, one thing is for sure it will through
a code. VAG it. I had a similar problem 2 years ago and it was EGT sensor on bank 1.
It could also be MAF. But we can spaculate for hours w/o codes.
For the grinding noise, it may be exhaust touching floor somewhere, bad engine/tranny mounts.

Check wheel bearings as well for grinding noise.
