well that is a b5 s4, those came with 2.7 "twin-turbo" motors or what audi calls bi-turbo... the same generation a4 came with either a 1.8t(i4) or a 2.8( v6)

there is also the b6/7 s4 with the 4.2 n/a v8 and the a4 had the 1.8t/2.0 and i think the 2.8/3.0.......

if i was new to audi i would go with a b5/b6 1.8t as for modability...... or a b6/7 s4 as for a little more reliability.... but having been in the community for a while that is a beautiful car... pearl white is very nice from quick glance the seats look to be in good shape... only 119,xxx for under 7k is nice, but the main down fall in my opinion is that it is an auto.....

main thing to look at when you are looking at an audi especially an s4(b5) is you have money to buy the car then another 5-15k for "maintenance".... if your turbos shoot the ****, you will have to pull the motor to change them...... and if you can't diy stay away

It all depends on how you want to go. And what generations of each that you're looking at. The B5 generation (the generation of the car you have listed) is a good one. I have a 2000 S4 myself. The S4 comes with a BiTurbo (twin turbo) 2.7L V6. Stock it pushes about 250hp. Its quick and will definitely be a blast. The A4 is the economy car Audi puts out. It has the same body as an S4, but is fitted with a 1.8T (turbo) motor instead. I believe the S4 has a better handling package on it as well. The S4 comes in ONLY quattro (AWD all the time), whereas the A4 can either be quattro or just FWD. For the money, I suggest the S4. I love mine. But if you're more worried about gas mileage, look for an A4. Also, look around on the site for info on things to look for before getting it. One thing I can think of is look at the mileage and ask what all routine maintenance has been done. Definitely want to make sure the timing belt and anything else messed up has been fixed on a higher mileage car. If it has ANY issues, I'd suggest staying away from it. If you're not all that Audi savvy, you could possibly end up dumping quite a bit of money into it right from the get go. Don't be willing to take a car that has problems just because its there right now. Cars are bought and sold every day. Patience is good when buying a new car.

EDIT: HA, damn TK. Beat me on that one

that being said the s4 would be a good/fun vehicle...... but be prepaired for maintenance/turbos to come up....... you could make an a4 as fast as an s4.. my small bt a4 is as fast a tuned + goodies s4... but a bigger turbo s4 will smash my car.... the only thing holding you back is the auto/triptronic tansmission.... now to combat that you could upgrade that ****.....

but if the wife is going to be driving it i would leave it pretty much stock maybe a tune and tip chip with exhaust and intake.....

dude, if you have to get a tip.. or an auto.. buy the S4, get a good solid stage 2 tune from EPL or VAST, a new TBB along with a good exhaust and be done with it.throw some water/meth in there and have even more fun..

itll be mucho fun..

Instead of a new throttle body boot (TBB), get the BiPipe replacement from APR. It's a little more expensive than a new boot ($314), but doesnt have any parts that will tear.

Linky loo
