Default diy chip install

ok sorry if this has been answered but i just tried the search feature and couldn't find anything, im in the market for buying a used apr chip. Now if i buy it for my 01 s4 manual box can i get it and install it myself buy plugging it in or do i absolutely need to bring it to a dealer? Im in the process of maybe buying it from someone and they said i can do it myself, just wanna make sure.

Are you planning on getting an ECU that already has the chip installed? Or are you planning on installing (soldering) the chip yourself?

If you're buying an ECU with the chip installed, it's a piece of cake. Just remove the negative battery cable before removing the ECU. If you're planning on soldering the chip in yourself, well, I hope you know what you're doing. That's not something you want to make a mistake while doing.
