Default Electrical Battery Problem

alright guys, this is the story
I got off the highway on tuesday and all of a sudden my ABS, Brake, traction, battery, and engine light went on.. The battery gauge was maxxed out at like 16 volts. I pulled over and checked allt he belts, everything looked good. I drove home slowly, and went to be. The next morning my battery was completely died, I couldn't even open the car with the remote. I put in a random battery that i had in my house and cranked the started. The engine started up but immediately all the lights were on again. The voltage was at 16 volts again, i just pulled the battery out and let the dead original battery charge up to full.
SO then today after the AUDI battery was fully charged i connected everything and started the car. The voltage showed 12 volts, but the little red battery light was on. I drove around for a little and the 12 volts began to fall, 11, 10, then at 9volts some of the car components started turning off EX: AC, Radio, v1...

So i definetly think that i have a problem with my alternator.. How much do you guys think they run for? how hard is the install going to be?

thanks

I would say call Audi and ask them. I don't think there is a performance alternator on the market so OE sounds like the way to go. good luck

Well...assuming you have a b5...

or

or
http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductL...for=Alternator
or if that's not enough
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...+s4+alternator

I believe you have to put thecar in service mode to do it. Or maybe you can get it from underneath.
Search for it! There are probably a thousand DIYs. Good luck let us know what you find out.

Exact same thing happened with my car, to the letter. Got an off the shelf alternator and it was the wrong one so the car cooked it in a day, hid's. Went to my local VW repair shop and my guy ordered me a certified brand new alternator from bosch. Dealership wanted 600. Insane. Got mine for like 275. I pulled my bumper and loosened the radiator so I could sling it forward on some zip ties. People have said you can just get it from underneath but without a lift it seemed like a pain. Easy fix though. Good Luck.
