Default Excessive front tire wear on '00 S4

I purchased an '00 S4 in October '05 and had to replace the tires after 1600 miles. I purchase a set of 4 Kumho 712 at NTB and had a 4 wheel alignment performed. After 3 months (January '06) I started to notice tire noise. The front tires are wearing excessively on the inner and outer shoulders, the center has normal wear. I took the car back to NTB and had the car realigned, tires rotated and pressures checked. Now, 3 months later, I am still having the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem and do you have a solution?

A lot of 'alignment shops' can't correctly align an Audi. There is a special tool to set the camber on our cars. Seems like alot of shops just set toe. I'd make sure that the tires are not under-inflated (good tire gauge) and take it to an Audi dealer to align.

Definatly sounds like an underinflated tire.

The tire pressures have been checked and rechecked weekly. It is not a tire pressure issue.

equal wear on inner and outer is low tyre pressure

The tires that are currently on the rear of the car were on the front and showed the same wear. They were run with 40 psi. The tires that are on the front are run with 35psi. I know for a fact that this is not a tire pressure issue.

This is an alignment issue, but according to NTB the car is in spec. I guess I will have to take it to the Audi "Stealer" and see if they can correct the problem.

How did this work out for you ballistic? I experienced the same problem with my car and just put on four new tires + alignment. I too KNOW that this is not an air pressure problem, as i am obsessive about checking it.

Since i had this work done by Big O my ride seems rougher. Could be i am over sensative but i don't think so. I sware I am getting a rithmic vibration at about 75 to 80 mph. I am thinking of taking It back in to have them rebalance the wheals.

ttfn,
Matt
