Default Help, Black Smoke, Intermittance, etc...

Help please,

Took my 2001 S4 Trip. for a typical oil change and tune-up on Friday, and the car is running terribly now. On my way home, the car was missing badly and burning black smoke out the muffler. The oil light came up as did the "famous" check engine light. I stopped in the expressway to check the oil level and it was over the limit by quite a bit.

Returned the car to the garage this morning and the oil level was corrected, taking care of the oil light issue. Unfortunately, the car remained missing badly with the following codes:

17535 - Long Term Fuel Trim mult., Bank 1 System too Rich
17537 - Long Term Fuel Trim mult., Bank 2 System too Rich
17861 - Ehaust gas temperature sensor 1 open/short to B+
17870 - Exhaust gas temperature control bank 2 Range/Performance
17965 - Charge Pressure Contr. Positive Deviation
P1519 - Intake Camshaft Contr., Bank 1 Malfunction
P0300 - Random Misfire Detected-Any cylinder

Any experienced, helping soul, willing to illuminate this iliterate individual in diagnosticating this issue ??? Please ???

Dam, something is really wrong. I would check the cam sensor first. Hopefully the sensor is just unplugged.
My thoughts is everything is related to the cam sensor. The engine doesn't know where the cam is, so the fuel is screwed up, & affected the LTFT.

Also check the DV's & the TBB, it might also be a big boost leak.

The codes are telling you that, the computer can no longer adjust, it's outside of the adjustable perimeters.

Hi 2k S4,
Thanks for your input. I took the car to the mechanic again yesterday. It continues with the misfire. Now it has the additional codes added:

16684-Random/Multiple Cylinder misfire detected
16685-Cyl. 1 misfire detected
16686-Cyl. 2 misfire detected
16687-Cyl 3 misfire detected
17743-Engine Torque monitoring 2 Control Limit Exceeded
17864-Exhaust gas temperature Control Limit Exceeded

But the one that pop ups first after clearing is:

17862-Exhaust Gas Temperature sensor short 1 to ground 1-G235 : low

The mechanic says the temperature sensor is bad and wants over $500 to replace it. Although I think the prognostic to be correct, I am afraid this is going to be one of those long "change parts until we find the right one" kind of deals, with me paying out of the wazoooooo............ [:@] Funny this happened right after the tune up.

I'm planning on changing myself and so far have found the part at ECS Tuning for $279.

Anyone out there might have an idea where elsecan I find part options ?

Andy

Yup, the EGT sensor will do that. Get it fixed ASAP. That's about the cheapest you will find it (ECS). Most places are around $500 for the part, so installed $500 doesn't seam to bad.
