Actual physical dimensions...cam cover to cam cover = width, etc..

If any of you know off hand how wide that 4.2 is, or would be willing to take a minute and some measuring tape out under your hood I'd GREATLY appreciate it.

In case you're wondering why, I'm looking to do an engine swap on another car of mine. I've looked and looked online but all that comes up is the old 5-cylinder models, and I don't trust odd numbers of pistons.

Thanks

bigger than a bread basket? if ithink about itthis weekend, i'll take a tape measure to it.have you asked overon the a6 or a8 forums as well? same engine offered and probably what you'd want to go with since thethinghas been modified (shortened by a few mm) to fit it in backwards into the s4.

If your going to do a conversion, do a ls1 conversion, or for the same price as finding one of these engines, an ls6-7..
Rennegade hybrids does these conversions all day long... Is your 944 an na or turbo? What trani are you going to use?

I talked to a local guy who does nothing but mod and race the 944. He told me that the stock tranny is perfectly capable of handling extra power as long as you don't launch off every stoplight. My car is the NA, and before a swap I'd at least have the tranny rebuilt if not replace it with the turbo.

dont bother with the n/a trani. Yes its strong.. but not half as strong as an 944 turbo trani, and besides the gearing of the turbo is PERFECT for a v8.. (actually the 968 6 speed is better.. but thats alot of $$) and the 944 turbo trani can handle well over 500hp.
