My bike isn't the eye-abusah. It's the Honda version of "let's see how fast we can make these things go" and it was the top for its year ('03 I think). Because it's the CA model it isn't quite as fast. I believe you when you say the speedo isn't all that accurate, but at >160mph, who's counting anyway.

Sooks, did you get the limiter taken off by doing the chip thing? I was wondering about that. Seems that the chips for the V8 don't do diddly, but it would be worth it to get past the limiter.

BadLuck - I think they quit trying to go for land speed records on the dam things at about 185. The record for MotoGP is 215mph, and they're even going to try to slow those guys down by limiting the engine size to 800cc. Still pretty insane having a maching with 200+hp that weighs about 300lbs.

What do you guys mean by GPS unit? GPS mean satellite positioning to me, but doesn't make sense in this context.

yesssss. yeah, most chips should remove the llimiter. but i dont know how much higher the v8 will go. to get above 170 is pretty touch. It takes a lot of power as well as aerodynamics becomes an issue. But i have heard of people hitting 160-165 in the v8... so i dont know.

GPS means global positioning satellite. A gps is a very precise instrument to measure your position on the earth. it can measure speed as just by physics. Distance = rate x time. so it takes two points (distance) and measures time it takes to get there you can get your speed. so it can just do a constant calculation geting your speed.

 

Ok so GPS is the GPS I thought it was. So, you get your car fitted with some mod to tell you your speed? I have NAV so obviously I have GPS. I thought they were only accurate to like 100 ft though, for the ones in cars. Anyway, kind of an academic topic anyway. The only speeds that matter are:

1. how fast the cop says you were going
2. if you can go faster than the cop and get away
3. if you're going faster than the guy you're racing

I got rear ended in a rental (while moving) last month and all anyone who know me could say was "how could anyone hit you from behind (unless you were stopped)" - well I had to explain that I was driving a rental car and obeying all traffic laws - AND SEE WHAT THAT GETS YOU!
