Default Idle question

Hi everyone. Recently I found a 2001 Audi S4, Automatic for sale at a good price. I test drove it and have a major question. When I took my foot off the gas the car slowed down very quickly (dropped like a rock). If I was stopped and I took my foot off the brake the car sat there without moving. When I hit the gas the car would move like normal. Idle is smooth, no problem accelerating, brakes seem fine. Engine sounds normal, handles well.

Is this how the car should be? I'd never driven an audi before this test drive. If it is meant to be that way it is the only car I have ever driven that didn't move forward when idling

what where your rpms when you left your foot of the gas? that could be engine braking, if i let go of the gas at 6000 i slow down pretty fast also

are you sure it wasnt in neutral when you were parked?
i have no idea about that one maybe the audi automatic shifts into neutral when your not moving?

^^ Thinking the same thing. With the ebrake on u wont move at idle in first gear. But you can give it some gas and it will move. and i see that it was am auto so the engine braking idea isnt too likely as the tip would upshift when u take ur foot of the gas.

There was no drag upon accelleration so I don't think the e brake was on. And the car was in Drive the whole time this was happening.

I think I should take the dealer out on a test drive with me so that he is aware of the problem (if there actually is a problem).

Thanks for your help guys!

Cheers,
Loochie
