Installing an FMIC
i was refereing to the best place to mount it in the front, ie where to bolt it into place... how do rs4 intercoolers compare to stockers? im just worried about heat soak, as ive heard SMIC get alot more heatsoak vs. the FMIC. so sidemounts are fine even when chipped?

There not usually "bolt on". The reason for going FMIC over SMIC is size. With a SM you are stuck to the size of the inside of the fender. With a FM you can go the length
of the car, and much larger surface area. FMIC are usually much larger then SM. That's why they heat soak less then a side mount.
If you put on a FMIC, and have a stock car, you will increase boost lag quite a bit, and you will work the turbo's much more to get the same boost level due to the
pressure drop of the bigger IC.
There are many STG III cars out there with stock IC's. I would just not worry about it until you get in the 400-500hp range, where IC's become part of the package.
Do you get heat soak now? What is done to the car?
RS4 are better, they are bigger, all metal, and only require slight modifying to fit.
Since the Rs4 had 130hp over our S4, I'm going to say they are fine for a chipped car.
