Just Bought 02 S4 -- questions...
is it a b5? or a b6? i believe that's when they switched the model, not too sure. but if b5, then definitely replace the TBB. apr makes a bipipe kit that has been very popular and a quick fix for the dreaded TBB failure. then i would say chip it and exhaust. best quick mods to make it go faster.
Hey Guys -- thanks for all the kind words and advice. But here's some major news for ya ... The car has an APR chip in it! It was on stock mode when I bought the car, and both myself and the dealership I bought the car from didn't know either. However, the car has the stock TBB and stock DV's. The shop that just installed my spec stage 2 clutch / flywheel let me know whey they attempted to reset a CEL (misfiring) -- that it came up with software from APR. So, I do have an APR chip on the car. The shop (they are an authorzied APR dealer) updated all the software, and now I have stock and 93 settings. The car is staying on stock for now, because I need to purchase the DVV and TBB over the next month while I break the clutch in (1000 miles to go). So, just how hard is it to do a self install of 007 DV's and a new TBB? Thanks all,

ps - the shop that is working on my car also informed me that if I showed up to the dealer with it on 'stock' mode, they would have no idea that I have a chip in my car. (unless they knew how to toggle between settings with the cruise control)

Yeah, I figured it was lucky -- still costing me $150 though. That's what APR charges to change the warranty on the chip to my name. This also allowed me to have them upload their latest software, so not so bad. Anyone have a write up on the DV's or TBB? I'd like to tackle that job next weekend. Thanks,

Maybe a bad idea, but I'd consider calling the deal to let them know it was chipped when you got it.....don't want them trying to void your warranty latter because of that.
I told the dealership (trying to get them to cover the $150, and suprise suprise they didn't know about it)... But the warranty isn't through the dealer, so it's no worries there. The car is warranteed through a 3rd party site. Thanks again for all the info,

Sorry for not giving a more direct link. Won't allow me. But scroll down and there's one called "S4 Throttle Body Hose" and the DV's aren't hard, just look at where they are (on either side of the TBB, look at pictures in "Torn S4 Bypass valve"), loosen the clamps, disconnect the 3 lines that are connected to them (one small on the top of the valve, others are similar sizes on the side and bottom of the valve) and just simply replace it with the new one. It's so easy you'll be like "damn... I needed instructions for that?" The DV pipes are a bit tricky to get off, don't be afraid to use some strength. And make sure the clamps are on tight at the end of both projects.
